I keep hearing from my siebel admin about SWSE, Siebel Gateway and Siebel CRM. I am a database administrator on the oracle front, but have not had much experience with these products. Can some one tell me the difference between the three.

SWSE stands for Siebel web server extensions and is a component that helps  in receiving, load balancing of the requests and format the output pages and serve them back to the clients.

SGNS is Siebel Gateway Name Server and is a registry of siebel servers and components. When a request is received by SWSE, it contacts the SGNS server to get the information about the connectivity and operational parameters of other components and primarily the Siebel Enterprise Server.

Siebel Server is the actual application server on which the components are installed. A request passes through SWSE and looks up the details about the Siebel processes on the siebel server, the request is routed to the appropriate component to be processed and output sent back to the SWSE extension.

Good Luck with your learning..
